How to Decorate a New House on a Budget

Thinking of sprucing up your house but you're on a tight budget? Don't worry because making your house more appealing doesn't have to be expensive.

Decorating your new house with a low budget can be challenging, even more so when you have an interior design layout plan in mind — but it’s not impossible. In fact, this should be an enjoyable process and not a reason to get a headache. Here are budget-friendly ways to help you get started!

1. Prioritize

You might be tempted to finish all decorations as soon as you move into your house, but remember, you don't have to buy everything all at once. Instead, make a list of the decors and organize them according to your necessity. Prioritize which items you need to immediately get and which can wait.

You should also double-check if the decorations that you want will truly complement your house. Some homeowners impulsively buy things because they think it's pretty, only to find out that they don’t suit the style of their house.

2. DIY decorations

Making your own decorations is fun and a lot cheaper. You can also customize it according to your taste!

There are countless DIY decor ideas that you can come up with. It just depends on what items are available. Here's an example:

Cut a piece of wood and paint it to your desired color. Next, assemble different wooden spoons according to their color and secure them to the plywood using a wire. Finally, mount it to your kitchen wall, and viola! You have a spoon hanger and a spoon display at the same time.

You can also make a lamp using your mason jar and light strings, a wall art using vintage clipboard frames, or even a votive candle holder using old keys. So ready your glue guns and turn your old items into stunning new decors.

3. Go thrift shopping

Thrift shops or antique stores are excellent places to buy fantastic home decor without breaking the bank. In a thrift shop, you can find various baskets, lamps, florals, frames, craft supplies, and many more! You can also modify these items according to your style.

Just make sure you pick items that are still in good shape. Inspect each item carefully.

4. Add some plants

Plants are very cost-effective and can instantly bring liveliness to your house. They can also boost your mood and eliminate air pollutants.

Choose plants that match your interior and are low maintenance. Some of the best indoor plants are philodendron, cast iron plant, snake plant, aloe vera, and cactus.

5. Choose a minimalist style

Minimalism is a recent trend around the world. When done correctly, your house can look clean and spacious. This is also budget-friendly because you don't have to put more in your house. In fact, the lesser the design, the better.

When opting for a minimalist style, choose a light color accent. But it doesn't have to be just white. You can start with a neutral foundation like nude, gray, or cream. Then, you can introduce slight variations in the shade, tone, and intensity to make your house more appealing.

Final Thoughts

Before you ever add decorations to your house, you need to clean it first. Removing all the clutter can bring wonders into your new space. This will allow you to get a clearer picture of your house and identify which areas need improvement.
